Genesis in Prague

A multimedia art project ‘Genesis’ took place from October 31 to November 6’2019 at he legendary Dancing House in Prague, Czech Republic. It was curated by Victoria Stepanets.

“The main idea of our project is to show internal transformation through art, to show how the works of contemporary artists are able to change human consciousness, ask new questions, expand worldviews, and influence world perception,” comments Victoria Stepanets, the project curator and editor-in-chief of the ‘Culture Trend’ Ukrainian magazine. “Works with a deep subtext and a separate plot were selected for the project, which are striking not only in their execution technique but also in their semantic load.”

The three floors of the exhibition presented over 60 works, which, despite different genres and approaches, harmoniously complemented each other, revealing the concept of the project more deeply and broadly. Realism in painting and sculpture on the first floor was replaced by impressionism on the second, traditional motanka, depicted both on canvases and through plaster sculptures, harmoniously complemented the hall with the video work "Transformation", a specially allocated space for the multimedia art project "Divided" (a combination of music, poetry and visual images) was replaced by philosophical works and abstract bright canvases. In the last hall, guests were greeted by a work named after the project and made especially for it - "Genesis."

“I am very happy to implement such a large-scale Ukrainian art project in the central gallery of Prague,” comments Yevhen Perebyinis, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Czech Republic. “This exhibition represents high-quality contemporary art of our country, demonstrates the European level of development of our culture and the high professionalism of our artists.”

Each floor symbolized a separate step on the way to the viewer’s internal re-awareness of himself and the world, his motives and role through art in its various manifestations (in painting, sculpture, video, performance), a separate step on the way to victory over himself: accepting the challenge, overcoming internal doubts and obstacles, changing the environment through oneself, a new relationship, internal dialogue, rethinking. Steps that not only “lead”, but also transform”; art that not only captivates with its execution, but also influences our perception of the world.

The project’s participants: Ukrainian artists – Oleksiy Glazunov, Oleksiy Hnievyshev, Andriy Zhukov, Mykyta Zigura, Yehor Zigura, Svyatoslav Bazyuk, Dmytro Koval, Olya Rondyak, Marta Pitchuk, Zinaida Kubar, Olha Adam, Mariko Gelman, Asror Muradov, Maksym Detkovsky, Vartan Markaryan, Czech sculptor Martin Jacques and Czech artist Michal Ozhybko.
